Microsoft 365 Migration
Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) based in Detroit, MI, is a multi-campus university system with Nursing & Healthcare, Public Safety, Education and virtual middle school programs.
Collaboration between faculty and students is key for WCCCD just like many other educational institutions. They found active collaboration challenging because they were using a number of productivity platforms.
The faculty and staff were in the primary domain under Office 365 A1 licenses while students (about 10,000 per semester) were using Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) and were not in the primary tenant.
After a thorough needs analysis undertaken with ProServeIT, an outline was created for WCCCD’s migration journey.
They upgraded their Office 365 A1 licenses to Microsoft 365 A3 licenses for educational institutions and increased their number of licenses to 1,000.
We also reached out to the FastTrack Team and were able to explore Microsoft’s migration tools. Because of the additional A3 licenses, WCCCD became eligible to use the migration tool Movere at no cost which reduced the project cost by half and paved the way for Wayne County Community College District to proceed with their migration to Microsoft 365.
As a result of the migration, not only were thousands of Google Workspace licenses displaced, but WCCCD’s annual monthly active usage (MAU) grew from 17 before the migration to 900 with the activation of the new A3 licenses.
The faculty is now able to collaborate easily and seamlessly with students to enhance their learning experience with the comprehensive Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.
The project significantly improved user experience across the Wayne County Community College District by modernizing their email and collaboration tools. This upgrade provided students, faculty, and staff with advanced features, seamless single sign-on across apps, and enhanced security via Azure Multi-Factor Authentication and conditional access.
Wayne Country Community College District’s next phase involves the deployment of Teams and SharePoint for the education section. ProServeIT will be managing the end-to-end migration project.
